Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions.
What happens in a first session? +
The first session is about getting to know you and what has brought you to therapy. We'll talk about your history, your goals, and what you're hoping to work on. There's no pressure. It's as much about you deciding if I'm the right fit as it is about understanding your needs.
Do I need a referral? +
No referral is needed. You can reach out directly to book a free consultation. Some insurance plans may require a referral for reimbursement. Check your plan's specific requirements.
How long does therapy take? +
This varies significantly from person to person and depends on what you're working on. Some people find 8–12 sessions helpful for a specific issue; others benefit from ongoing support over a longer period. We'll discuss this together and review as we go.
Is everything confidential? +
Yes. What you share in therapy is confidential, with a small number of legal exceptions (risk of harm to yourself or others, child abuse disclosure requirements). I'll walk you through all of this in our first session so you know exactly where the limits are.
What is virtual therapy like? +
Virtual sessions take place over a secure video platform. All you need is a private space and a reliable internet connection. Many clients find virtual therapy just as effective as in-person, and the flexibility makes it easier to show up consistently.
Do you offer a sliding scale? +
Yes. I believe financial barriers should not prevent someone from accessing the support they need. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are available for individuals who would otherwise be unable to access therapy. If cost is a concern, please reach out. We can have an open, judgment-free conversation about what might work for you.
What is your cancellation policy? +
Please provide at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be charged at the full session rate. Life happens. If something comes up, please reach out as early as possible.
